Amarnath Yatra curtailed on diktats of separatist leaders: BJP | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, May 19: Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) has expressed grave concern over the curtailment of Yatra period by 15 days and said that motive behind this decision is to keep people under control of Kashmir-centric government, which is highly condemnable. In a handout issued here today, BJP Chief Spokesperson and National Executive Member Dr, Jitendra Singh, alongwith party General Secretary Sat Sharma and VHP Organization Secretary Surinder Mishra visited Reasi attended meeting of Baba Amarnath Yatra Nyas of Reasi district. He said Shri Amarnath Yatra is a mode of expression of faith in the composite culture of Jammu & Kashmir and is synonymous with the enjoyment of religious freedom in a democratic set up”. Shri Amarnath Yatra Shrine Board under the State Governor N.N. Vohra has been taking unilateral decisions in the mode and duration of yatra which result in the curtailment of the yatris without consulting the devotees and public forums like Baba Amarnath and Buda Amarnath Yatra Niyas (BABAYN). It is clear that the shrine board has no concern for the sentiments of the devotees of Shri Amarnath. Countering the arguments of the shrine board for curtailing the yatra period at the dikat expressed by Geelani that the yatra effects the eco-balance of the region, Dr. Jitendra Singh said that interests of eco-balance could be much better and effectively served if forests were not ruthlessly cut and instead tree plantation was done in the region. Expressing worry over the impending confrontation between BABA Yatri Niyas and SASB, Dr. Jitendra Singh refuted one by one each and every argument forwarded by the government to curtail the period of Yatra. Firstly, Dr. Jitendra Singh refuted the argument of environment pollution put forward by Geelani and retorted if Geelani was really honest about the valley’s environment then he should also demand curtailment in the number of tourists visiting Kashmir. Dr. Singh appealed to state authorities and SASB to avoid the path of collision which could disturb peace in the region. VHP Sangathan Mantri Surinder Mishra, while speaking on the occasion, extended invitation to all the social, religious and political groups to come forward and display unity against the decision of the SASB. He said that the Nyas has been organizing district level meetings and public awareness rallies to make the people aware of the unilateral decision of the SASB which has hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus. He said that a sammelan will be held at Jammu on May 29 and Reasi on May 28. BJP Human Rights Cell State Convenor Subhash Vaid, in consultation with party State President Shamsher Singh Manhas, has nominated State Co-Convenor and District Convenor of the Cell in order to reach the masses more effectively at the gross roots level and work towards helping them at their doorsteps. Subhash Vaid nominated Bishan Dutt as State Co-Convenor of Human Rights Cell. Similarly, he nominated Romeil Singh as Ramban District Convenor, Ganesh Dutt as Jammu Rural Convenor, Birbal as Samba Dictrict Convenor, Mangal Singh as Akhnoor Dictrict Convenor, Ashok Kumar as Reasi District Convenor, Rashpal Singh as Doda District Convenor and Naresh Bhagat (Adv.) as Udhampur District Convenor. Subhash Vaid has asked these new nominees to constitute their teams at the earliest in their respective areas and work for strengthening the cell at all levels with intimation to the State Office.
