All panchayats to have sports fields under PYKKA: Rather

Srinagar, May 19- In a significant move to boost sports activities in every nook and corner of the State, the Government has embarked upon an ambitious goal to construct sports fields in all the 3941 Panchayat Halqas and 143 community blocks under flagship Panchayat Yuva Krida Aur Khel Abhiyan (PYKKA).
While the scheme earmarks Rs one lakh for each panchayat, Rs 5 lakhs are being incurred for construction of sports fields in each community block.
Stating this after launching the PYKKA at a colourful sports event at Shogpora in Budgam district this afternoon, the Minister for Finance Abdul Rahim Rather said that to keep pace with the world wide popularity about games, the
State government is giving focused attention for promotion of sports, adding that matching grant of State share for various centrally sponsored sports schemes is released on priority to ensure cent percent utilization of funds.
The 2-days block level sports competition was organized by the Directorate of Youth Services & Sports in which about 780 girls of 22 halqa Panchayats of District Budgam are participating.
The Finance Minister said that 14 community blocks and 413 halqa panchayats have already been covered under the scheme where play field have been developed for the convenience of rural youth. Rather while highlighting the importance of games asked the youth to take part in various sports events to channelize their energies in a right direction.
Rather on this occasion, kick started a khokho exhibition match, which is an indigenous game, originated from the India.
The Director Youth Services and Sports informed that the block level sports competitions organized under PYKKA would be followed by district and provincial level sports competitions. While the first three winners in block level sports events would be given cash award of Rs 20,000, Rs 12,000 and Rs 4,000 respectively, the winner at district level matches would get Rs 40,000, Rs 24,000 and Rs 8,000 respectively.
