Panthers Party will have to work hard to retrieve the lost ground
Dogra Certificate

EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, May 19: The Panthers Party president, along with several other
party activists, on Tuesday braved heat and held a dharna in front of
the Raj Bhawan to register their emphatic protest against the decision
of the NC-Congress coalition government in the state to withdraw the
March 25 order that had entitled the Dogras of Jammu to obtain Dogra
certificates and avail of certain relaxations in terms of height and
chest expansion.
It is obvious that the Panthers Party has realized that it did outrage
the sentiments of the Dogras by voting for the pro-self-rule and
pro-supra-state-measures (read shared sovereignty) PDP candidate
seeking election to the legislative council on April 13 and that if it
sincerely wishes to retrieve the lost ground it has no other option
but to identify itself completely with the humiliated Dogras. The
manner in which the Panthers party has started taking up the issue of
Dogra certificate does augur well for the party and the Dogras and one
can really hope that the Panthers Party would educate the opinion of
the Dogras across the Jammu province about the ramifications of what
the state government did on April 28 to appease the anti-Dogra and
anti-national forces in Kashmir. Leave alone the state BJP, which has
become irrelevant in the state for all practical purposes by indulging
in cross-voting on an unprecedented scale. The Dogras of Jammu would
never forgive those in the BJP (and even the party itself) who
reportedly accepted bribe not only from the ruling coalition but also
from the PDP and voted for the Congress and the NC candidates on April
13 and committed another crime by not voting for the PDP candidate.
The unpopularity of the BJP can be prove a god-sent opportunity for
the Panthers Party, which came into being decades ago with empowerment
of Jammu province as its major plank. The fact of the matter is that
the Panthers Party can occupy the political space the BJP occupied
not-so-long-ago in Jammu province provided it is prepared to work at
the grassroots level and take its Dogra certificate crusade to its
logical conclusion. Let’s see how the Panthers Party leadership acts
in the days to come. As for the badly let down Dogras, they are
feeling extremely angry and they would surely swing solidly behind
those who would make Dogra certificate issue the cornerstone of their
policy.
