Government misusing Rs 3900 cr power finance, keeping Jammu in dark: BJP | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, May 20: Enraged over the frequent scheduled and unscheduled electricity cuts BJP state spokesperson Nirmal Kamal had a dig on the State Government, who despite an expenditure of 3900 crores financed exclusively for power sector by the Central Government right from 2006 to 2009 has remained callous towards the summer problems of shortage of water and power. Nirmal Kamal aggressively stated that the State coalition government is befooling the public who is bearing the scorching summer at 43 degree Celsius without power and water. It must be recalled that Jammu & Kashmir State faces water and power shortage all the 12 months of the year and the demand for electricity remains all time high irrespective of summer and winter. The irresponsible State Government using strategies deliberately tilted towards Kashmir region always keep Jammu dry during summer and confound the acts of discrimination even in distribution of power and water which are the prime essentials for the living of human beings. During winter season when the secretariat remains confined to the winter capital, the frequent shut down of electricity is less and during summer when the Secretariat moves to the summer capital why should the supply of electricity remain less? This is an important question which needs to be addressed. The transformer’s burning rate and snags in distribution of network increases along with the soaring mercury and consumption of electricity by the consumers beyond the agreement load are the attributions leveled by the concerned authorities. At the same time the finance department fixed up enhanced power tariff realization target from Jammu region as compared to the Kashmir region by Rs. 247 crores as compared to Kashmir during the current financial year. How can government do so without of enhancing expenditure on existing power structure? This speaks volumes of oppressive attitude towards Jammu. Challenging the government Nirmal Kamal stated that the government either has not spent on maintenance of existing power structure upto mark or most of the funds have been mis-utilized. She maintained that according to the inner sources there are some areas in Jammu which have been full metered and are contributing maximum to the government’s tariff yet no single penny has been spent on maintenance of electricity components for the last four years. That is the only reason of frequent snags incurring and the unrepaired transformers unable to take the load of electricity during peak hours of summer resulting into power curtailments while no such curtailment is notice in Kashmir which has always been given special directive against curtailment all the 12 months of the year. In this context Nirmal Kamal reiterated that public ought to know where this amount of Rs. 3900 crores given by the Centre government for the power sector reforms including the maintenance of existing powering infrastructure is gone. Therefore, the ruling government should stop harping hollow claims of equitable development. No development is possible without improvement in the infrastructure of what electricity and water availability are the important components. Also no government can survive for long which do not take care of welfare of the public. This inhumane attitude of the state government is reflected in frequent scheduled and unscheduled power cuts. Contrary to the market rule that “you receive as you pay”, the state government has adopted the strategy of robbing honest Peter to pay to the Paul who is not contributing to the government’s kitty. Nirmal Kamal further pointed out that the state government avoid being inhumane and callous toward the woes of the public.
