Govt determined to provide better roads in state: Omar | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, May 20 Various schemes are being implemented to develop and upgrade roads to interlink the vast rural areas and districts of the state, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said today. "A comprehensive road development and upgradation programme is under implementation. While attention is being paid to construction of new roads and upgradation of existing ones under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana in the rural areas, special efforts are afoot to link various districts through new roads, bridges and tunnels," he said. The chief minister was addressing a public meeting after inaugurating Kathar bridge on Tawi river at Manova, about 40 km from here, in Akhnoor tehsil of Jammu district. Economic growth of any area depends on road connectivity, and the government is focussing to provide better roads in the state to provide new dimension to economic activities and equitable development, he said. Highlighting the significance of Kathar bridge, he said that it will benefit the people of Rajouri, Poonch, Reasi and Jammu districts. The construction of this bridge would facilitate more pilgrims to visit Shiv Khori temple, which is being developed on the lines of Vaishno Devi shrine, he said.
