| Power minister tells PDD to avoid unscheduled cuts | | | Early Times REPORT
JAMMU, MAY 21-Minister of State for Power Shabir Khan today reviewed the power scenario, including daily consumption and curtailment in Jammu division at a high level meeting attended by functionaries of Power Development Department and Power Development Corporation from across the region.
Minister also inquired about the availability of transformers at the main division level Transformer Bank in the winter capital and sought details about number of replacements made during last two months. Status of work on various under execution Receiving stations and grid stations was also reviewed.
Meeting discussed threadbare the measures for over coming the power shortage faced by region in the backdrop of prevailing heat wave conditions in Jammu and its peripheries. Minister asked the PDD authorities heading various wings of the department to maintain close co-ordination to overcome the prevalent power crisis.
He suggested that reducing of T&D losses and close check on the power pilferage could greatly help in tiding over the crisis. Minister asked the functionaries to put extra efforts to ensure that people may not face any inconvenience, particularly during the prevailing heat conditions. He asked them to maintain liaison with public and take them in confidence with regard to curtailment schedule.
Earlier, meeting was informed that the department is resorting to five hours curtailment in metered areas and 8 hours cut in un-metered areas. It was also informed that again the requirement of 699 MW the state is getting only 314.50 MW presently. Chief Engineer, S&O Wing Jammu, Ajay Gupta, Chief Engineer M&RE Wing Jammu, Shehnaz Goni, Superintending Engineers of Jammu, Kishtwar, Rajouri and Batote Circle and Ex. Engineers of Jammu division were present in the meeting.
