CBI Court rejects Mir's plea | | | Chandigarh : Special Court Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has rejected former minister of Jammu Kashmir and senior Congress leader Ghulam Ahmad Mir's plea to discharge him from the infamous Srinagar sex scandal case. CBI judge Ritu Tagore pronounced the judgement here Friday. Mir had submitted in his petition that the investigation could not establish his and other persons' role indicted in the sex scandal case including senior bureaucrat Iqbal Khandey, former minister Raman Mattoo, ex Dy SP Yusuf Mir and Advocate Anil Sethi. He further said that CBI has no evidence against him while most of the witnesses have also retracted from their statements. Even the victim had also turned hostile, as such there is no solid reason to further investigate the case, Mir maintained. However, the CBI counsels contested the arguments of Mir and said that though some of the witnesses have turned hostile, they are in possession of substantial evidences on which the prosecution would be able to prove these allegations. It is therefore requested before the Special Court to reject the plea of Mir, they added. It is worthwhile to mention here that the Srinagar sex scandal came to light in the year 2004 when the Jammu & Kashmir police conducted raids at the residence of main accused Sabeena and nabbed several girls involved in the sex racket. The sex racket expose had rocked the Srinagar city as people held a series of protests over the issue. |
