Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 21: Former speaker of UP Assembly and MP, Kesar Nath Tripathi is likely to success the BJP Central Disciplinary Committee Chief Prof. O.P. Kohli who has been appointed Party's Prabhari at its Central Headquarter New Delhi early this month.
According to High placed party sources Mr. Tripathi's name has been proposed by Party Chief Nitin Gadkari for the post as Prof. Kohli is overburdened with the party affairs at Central Headquartes.
The appointment of Mr. Tripathi as head of Party's Disciplinary Committee will be a good news for several suspended MLA's from the State who are facing trial before it as Mr. Tripathi is considered as a close friend of Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta who is the leader of the Legislative Group. Source said that it was due to influence of Mr. Tripathi and Mr. Tandon that Disciplinary Committee during its last two meetings on May 10 and May 20 delayed decision on the fate of seven suspended MLA's from the State who were reportedly involved in cross voting in favour of NC and Congress candidates in April 13 elections of Legislative Council. Sources said Mr. Tripathi has fully endorsed the arguments made by seven suspended members who questioned the parameters used by the party in singling out them for cross voting.
Mr. Tripathi who favours that suspended MLA's be given a chance to explain their position by the committee has restrained it from taking any decision in haste, sources added.
Sources said the divided opinion among the Disciplinary Committee members over the issue of cross voting has not only made the position of suspended MLA's more stronger but also restrained the party High Command from taking any decision.
Even the newly appointed BJP Legislative Party leader Jugal Kishore Sharma who was earlier asked by High Command to write the letter to Legislative Assembly speaker, Mohd. Akbar Lone seeking dismissal of the Party MLA's for violating its whip in April 13 elections to Upper House, has not so far given the green signal from High Command in this regard.
Sources said the delayed action by Party High Command has demoralized the BJP Cadres as they are unable to face public who put a question mark on its claim that BJP is a party with discipline.
