Rajiv led country towards challenges of 21st century: Parkash

JAMMU, May 21:
Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) organized an impressive function at the lawns of Guest House Canal Road Jammu to pay rich tributes to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 20th death anniversary today.Paying rich tributes to Rajiv Gandhi, Congress Working Committee (CWC) member Mohan Parkash, who was chief guest on the occasion, described Rajiv Gandhi as a great visionary leader who led the country towards the challenges of 21st century. He said it was the vision of Rajiv Gandhi that India has emerged as the leader of the World in information technology. He said, when Rajiv talked about information and communication technology, the leaders of the main opposition party criticized him inside and out side the parliament because they could not understand the challenges of 21st century.
Mohan Parkash said that to ensure constitution right to the people at the grass root level Rajiv Gandhi has brought 73rd and 74th Amendments in the Constitution. He also referred to the lowering of voting age from 21 to 18 years to ensure participation of youth in the democracy.
Parkash also exhorted the partymen to take pledge on this occasion to follow the principle of Congress party and the path shown by its great leaders.
Prof Saifuddin Soz while paying tributes to Rajiv Gandhi described him as one of the great leaders of this country who led this country to grand success for the 21st century. It was his great contribution that India has emerged as a leader of information technology and empowerment of people through Panchayati Raj System. He said that Indian democracy is acknowledged today in the world as a vibrant and transparent democracy.
Prof Soz said that the Congress party guarantees the unity and integrity of three regions of the state. He expressed satisfaction over the large turnout in the Panchayat elections and people have shown their faith over democracy.
Earlier, former Dy Chief Minister Mangat Ram Sharma and senior vice president Dharam Pal Sharma also paid rich tributes to Rajiv Gandhi.

Meanwhile, a large attended meeting of Congress party workers was held at party Headquarters, Srinagar to commemorate the death anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi.
The meeting was chaired of Senior Vice President of Congress Mohd Muzaffar Parray and the proceedings were conducted by Abdul Majid Padder Vice President PCC.
Minister for PHE Taj Mohi-ud-din, Khem Lata Wakhloo, Gulam Ahmad Mir MLA, Nazir Ahmad Bhat paid rich tributes to the departed leader and detailed out his contribution in the Nation building and brining down the concept of democratic system of Governance to grass root level through Panchayats.
