Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 21: Senior National Conference and Congress leaders have questioned validity of Hurriyat Conference leader Prof. Abdul Gani Bhat’s contention that separatists did not meet interlocutors since they were not a decision making body.
Congress and NC leaders have asked Bhat if the Kashmir committee headed by Ram Jethmalani was a decision making body, mainstream political leaders, wishing to remain unidentified, said that the Hurriyat leaders had a number of meetings with the Kashmir committee last time even though the committee was not constituted by the government and it had no authority to take any decision.
Earlier Prof. Bhat had made it known that the separatists did not respond to the verbal and written invitation for talks from the interlocutors because this was not a decision making body. He has stated that Hurriyat leaders were willing to meet any body which has the powers to take and implement decisions. He has stated that this was the reason that the separatists wanted to interact with the Prime Minister or senior ministers tasked by him for the resolution of the Kashmir problem and other issues.
Congress and the NC leaders said that in the interest of peace and conflict resolution it was necessary for the separatists to discuss all the issues with the interlocutors so that Daleep Padgaonkar, M.M.Ansari and Radha Kumar could fully incorporate their views and suggestions in their report and recommendations.
These leaders suggested to the separatists to review their decision and accept invitation for talks from the interlocutors so that some of their views and suggestions could find place in their recommendations. They said it was appreciable on the part of the interlocutors that they had decided to include reported ideas and views of the separatists in their recommendations to be submitted shortly to union Home Minister.
