Stage set for showdown between BJP rival factions

Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 21: Stage is finally set for final showdown between rival factions of the state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unit in the days to come.
Despite giving another opportunity to seven suspended BJP MLA's to present their view point, none of them Friday presented themselves before the party’s central disciplinary committee and at the same time raised questions over futility of entire exercise.
Sensing the mood of the suspended party MLA's the party high command too has adopted 'wait and watch policy' to test political waters in the days to come. Party high command has not set any deadline to take final decision on the future of party MLA's.
Leading the pack of rebels is veteran party leader Prof Chaman Lal Gupta. Since day one he is commanding unstinted support of six other party MLA's and calling all the shots. Aggrieved Gupta had even shot off a letter to the party high command to explain why he should present himself before the central disciplinary committee.
“I want to know, what my fault is,” Chaman has been asking. Following him six others have also submitted similar replies claiming that they had not cross voted in legislative council polls in support of alliance candidates. In a letter written to party high command, Gupta also wanted to know why no documentary proof of their cross voting has been made available to them on the basis of which the party high command had taken the decision to suspend them from the party.
Meanwhile, chairman of the Central disciplinary committee O.P.Kohli had clearly buckled under pressure instead of taking a tough stand under the circumstances. On Friday, O.P.Kohli also decided to take a more lenient view and postponed final decision in the matter. Inside reports suggest that the party high command decided to shift gears to
keep party MLA's in god humour and avoided direct confrontation especially ahead of start of Amarnath yatra.
