| 1.5 lakh Amarnath Yatris registered in two weeks | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, May 22:- The registration of Amarnath yatris is going on in full swing and so far over 1.5 lakh devotees have secured the yatra permits to visit the 3,880-metre high holy cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas.
The yatra is scheduled to commence on June 29 and the registration of the pilgrims started about two weeks ago through internet based e-Registration facility and 149 bank branches spread across various states.
"In the first 12 days since commencement of Registration as many as 1,50,961 persons have secured the Yatra Permits for performing this year's yatra to the holy cave shrine of Amarnath, scheduled to commence on June 29," chief executive officer of Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) R K Goyal said today.
He said the registration of yatris has been increasing steadily since May 10 and all the designated bank branches are witnessing a heavy rush for registration. On an average during the past 12 days, over 12,500 Yatris have been availing the registration facility daily.
Of 1,50,961 Yatris registered so far, 78,287 have opted for the traditional 45-km Pahalgam route in Anantnag district and 72,674 have secured registration for the shortest Baltal route in Ganderbal district, Goyal said.
The CEO reiterated his appeal to all the intending pilgrims to ensure that they embark on the pilgrimage only after obtaining, in their own interest, a valid Yatra Permit, through internet based e-Registration facility or from any of the designated bank branches.
"This would ensure against any avoidable inconvenience to them on their arrival in Jammu and Kashmir," he said. All the registered pilgrims have been provided free accident insurance cover of Rs1 lakh, said Goyal.
