‘Tree talk’ reaches Bandipora | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, May 22 (KNS): On the occasion of World Biodiversity Day, Kashmir Forestry Training School Bandipora under the guidance and support of O P Sharma Vidyarthi organized 26th ‘Tree Talk’ in its lush green campus. The occasion also highlighted hundred years of existence of KFT School Chitternar, Bandipora. The KFT School was founded in 1911 under the patronage of Maharaja Pratap Singh and British Forest Conservator W H Lovegrove. The school imparts training to the field forest guards and foresters on a regular basis to equip them with modern technical know-how and management skills to manage precious green gold in the state. After organizing Silver Jubilee Tree Talk in Srinagar, it was turn of north Kashmir district of Bandipora today. Forest trainees were in euphoria to welcome tree lovers, tree experts and media persons coming from Bandipore, Srinagar, Baramula and Sopore. Several poets of repute including old stalwarts of Forest Department, Education Department, made the celebration a memorable affair. ‘Tree Talk’ started with a warm welcome note by the Principal KFT School, Zuber Ahmad Shah who highlighted the importance of Forestry since British times. Tree talk participants had a round of medicinal plant demonstration plot where critically endangered, rare and threatened species namely Kaahjawain, Guggal dhoop, Kaur, Belladonna, Kaodachh, Tethven, Tilpushi, Kuth were growing under exsitu conservation programme . Later tree talk participants made useful entries in the Biodiversity Register of KFT School. On the occasion, forest medicinal and edible products were also displayed by KFT School trainees.
