‘A Distant Relative’ staged in Natrang’s Sunday Theatre | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, May 22: Natrang staged Hindi translation of a world famous English play ‘A Distant Relative’ at its studio in Sunday theatre series.
The play has been written by W. W. Jacob and directed by Gaurav Triyal.
The play was acclimatized with contemporary actions and regional environs so that it could leave more impact.
In the play, ‘Raj’ & ‘Rani’ are busy doing arrangements of their daughter ‘Mini’s’ marriage, her fiancé, ‘Rahul’ is also there at their home. Meanwhile ‘Bunty’, Mini’s maternal uncle arrives there. He is a criminal who is imprisoned but has somehow managed to get rid of Jail on ‘ticket of leave’. As Raj is concerned about his reputation in the eyes of the In-Laws of his daughter, he hides the fact and projects as if Bunty has come from Australia and is a very rich and noble person. This proved to be the trap in which he himself was caught as Bunty started to exploit his fake identity to snatch money from them, telling baseless lies which Raj can not contradict in front of Rahul and Mini as it may damage his reputation. When Bunty crossed all the limits of greed, Raj builds a plan, he makes a fake call in his presence to some of his imaginary friend, who is in police, this scares Bunty and he skips as swift as possible from there to escape the jail once again.
Mohit Sharma enacted the tole of ‘Bunty’, Balwinder Singh as ‘Raj’, Niharika Sharma as ‘Rani’, Smiley as ‘Mini’ and Arvind Singh as ‘Rahul’. Lights were executed by Rahul Singh. Sumeet Sharma coordinated the show and the presentations were done by Gaurav Jamwal.
