Lone advises PDP not to spread canard about panchayat results

SRINAGAR, May 22: Speaker Legislative Assembly and MLA, Sonawari Mohammad Akbar Lone while commenting on the news item published in one of the leading newspapers today wherein PDP President Mehooba Mufti, Moulvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari and Nizamu-ud- din Bhat have felicitated Yasir Reshi of PDP for winning 20 seats of sarpanchs out of total 38 in Sonawari, said that the statement is totally immature, self defeating and a canard being spread by the party that they have won majority of panchayat seats of panchs and sarpanchs in Sonawari area.

Lone further maintained that panchayat elections have been conducted on non party basis but in order to clarify the position of Sonawari area it is pertinent to mention that out of the total 41 seats in the area National conference backed candidates have won 14 out of total 23 in Hajin area, 3 in Sofapura, 8 in Sumbal area respectively. He said that 25 Sarpanchs have been declared elected who were backed by National Conference.

Giving full figures of the Panchayati election results of the constituency, Lone said that in Safapura out of a total number of 4 NC backed have won 3, 8 out of 15 in Sumbal respectively, whereas others being backed by different political parties have won 7 in total. He said that in Hajan out of 23 seats, the majority of 14 seats have been won by NC backed candidates whereas 9 have been shared by the different parities including PDP.

Lone further said that the percentage of votes polled this year in the Panchayat elections have been more than those in 2002 and 2008 Assembly elections. He advised PDP leadership not to spread rumours by floating false figures about winning in panchayats elections. He said that these facts and figures can be got verified from the concerned administrative authority by those persons who have full knowledge about the winning candidates and their association with the parties who have backed them.
