| Can BJP help Dogra achieve what they want? | | Dogra Certificate | | Neha

JAMMU, May 22: State unit of BJP, which is passing through critical times and which is also on the verge of collapse, is making desperate attempts to win over the people of Jammu whom its legislators ditched only the other day allegedly for the sake of money and other benefits. It is hardly necessary to remind the esteemed readers of the Early Times that 7 of the 11 BJP legislators had voted for candidates belonging to the Congress, the NC and the PDP on April 13 and those whom the high command suspended thereafter under tremendous public pressure on the charge that they had violated the people's mandate and vitiated the whole election process have raised a banner of revolt against the party leadership and questioned the methodology the high command adopted while declared the remain four not guilty. Suffice it to say that all the 11 BJP legislators are in the dock, with even their supporters finding it extremely difficult to trust them. The supporters and the party cadres are so demoralized.
As mentioned, the condemned BJP leadership in the state is trying its level best to restore the ground the party lost owning the act of political debauchery its legislators shamelessly enacted. However, the party has failed to come out with any specific Jammu-centric agenda. It is only holding press conferences and issuing press releases, with the people paying no heed to what the BJP leadership says during the press conferences or what their press releases contain. The reason: One day, it rakes up the Dogra certificate issue, forgets it completely the very next day and then takes up another issue. And, the process goes on like this, thus creating an impression that it is simply beating about the bush and flapping aimlessly and that the party has no ware to put in the Jammu's political market for sale.
It would not be out of place to mention here that it was only on two occasions that the BJP leadership raised the issue of Dogra certificate and it happened long ago. For the last, say, 20 days the BJP has not even once undertaken any activity calculated to persuade the NC-Congress coalition government to revoke the April 28 order under which the March 25 order on Dogra certificate was revoked. On the other hand, it has been issuing warnings that it would do this or do that if the Shri Amarnath Yatra is not started on June 15; if the state government accepts the yet-to-be-submitted recommendations by the interlocutors; and so on. These are the things which are yet to happen and the BJP goes on issuing warning on a daily basis. But as far as the issue of the Dogra certificate is concerned that the biased government clinched more than three weeks ago much to the chagrin of the Dogras of Jammu, the BJP leadership has nothing to say or nothing to do. What kind of politics the BJP is taking recourse to win back the trust of the beguiled and cheated Dogras?
The fact of the matter is that the BJP is not committed to what it said long ago about the Dogra certificate issue. It is for the Dogras to work out a strategy themselves so that they could achieve what they legitimately deserve as part and parcel of Indian society. Depending upon BJP or similar other outfits, including the Congress, would be a futile attempt. |
