9204 out of 9933 habitation yet to be connected: Rather | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, May 24 : Out of 9933 habitations, more than 9204 are yet to be connected even after more than six decades of independence, and the government is planning to connect these habitations to the mainstream during the 12th plan, state Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather said.
Connecting people with one another is the most important challenge before the state government and construction work on projects for 1111 habitations had already been approved and roads were under construction, he added.
He also claimed that Voluntary Services Allowances (VSA) is being provided to all unemployed educated youth having qualification of matriculation and above.
Referring to the unemployment, Mr Rather said the most important challenge, the state government faces is the engagement of youth in a positive and sustainable manner in the nation and state building activities.
For this purpose, the state government has launched an ambitious employment scheme called Sher-e-Kashmir Employment and Welfare Programme for Youth (SKEWPY), with a target to cover about 5 lakh youth over a period of five years, Mr Rather said, adding that VSA is being provided to all unemployed educated youth having qualification of matriculation and above.
Mr Rather also urged for time-bound implementation of the recommendations of Dr C Rangarajan Committee for generating employment avenues for the unemployed youth of the state.
The committee was appointed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh after last summer unrest in which more than 110 people were killed allegedly in security forces and police firing.
