Say no to drugs: IGP to youth

Srinagar, May 24 (KNS): The Inspector General of Police Kashmir range, S M Sahai, Tuesday advised youth particularly the students to develop the competitive traits among themselves s and stay away from using any sort of drugs.
Speaking as guest of honor at a function organized by Kashmir Socio Academy at Delhi Public School, here Sahai said, “Drug addiction makes a person weak not only physically but also affects mental makeup and pushes him into the darkness of depression.”
He discussed bad effects of the drug on overall development of youth with the students. The IGP highlighted the positive intervention undertaken by Jammu and Kashmir Police by establishing a Drug De-Addiction Centre at Police Control Srinagar.
He said that a trend has been observed whereby addicts have been found indulging in crimes, like thefts, vehicles lifting etc. He assured the audience that J&K police will continue with its efforts to help youth of the people to come out of this menace by organizing community camps at various places particularly which are drug prone. He also participated in the question answer session.
The chief guest, Dr. Mehboob Beigh, Member Parliament appreciated the step taken by the Police by establishing a Drug De-Addiction centre. He said that the awareness programme should be organized throughout the state. He further said that the there is a need to organise such programmes at a large scale so as to remove the social stigma attached with it.
Earlier, the Incharge Police Drug De-Addiction centre, Dr. Muzaffar Khan gave a comprehensive presentation regarding Drug De-Addiction scenario in Kashmir.
Dr. Kasir, Child specialist also give a lecture regarding ill effects of Drug addiction on the growth of children. The programme was attended by the representative of health and education department, students and staff members of Delhi Public School.
