State government apathetic attitude leaves Ladakh’s students in jeopardy

Early Times Report
LADAKH, May 24: In yet another irresponsible step towards Ladakh, the state government once again played with the career of hundreds of college students here in Leh by circulating out of syllabus paper and prematurely implementing the 2010 notification.
In the E J M College Leh Part-I Economic A paper and Part - III Sociology B paper were out of syllabus.
Actually the part-I economics paper was for old course instead of new course and in case of part- III Sociology paper the paper was according to the latest notification in which it was supposed to bring some modification in the syllabus in the year 2012.
In the session 2010 the Kashmir University had issued a notification in which the Syllabus for part - I was to be changed from 2010 itself and for part-II the syllabus was to be changed from the academic session 2011 and for part- III the said notification was supposed to be implemented from the 2012 academic session.
“In yesterday papers the University has without going into the date of implementation of the said notification irresponsibly implemented the said notification this year,” said one of the student.
“On receiving the news I approached the Principal of E J M Degree College Leh ,Youdhvir Singh. He authenticated the news and said that in his college there are still number of problems due to which the strength of the college could not reach even 400 in the last seventeen years in any academic year”, he adds.
Youdhvir Singh said , “ Earlier the exams here were held with bi-annual session of Kashmir University which badly affected the career of hundreds of bright students apart from wasting their precious academic year”.
“Even though the college has all the faculty of Arts, Science and Commerce and also having fully equipped Science Lab and Libraries but the usage is very poor due to lack of awareness and apathetic and irresponsible attitude of even local administration towards education”, says Youdhvir.
The students and the teachers both want to take a serious note of this incidence and urged to give equal importance to this college and its students by Kashmir University and government.
