JKNPP demands abrogation of SRO 62 | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, May 24: Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) working chairman Harsh Dev Singh has demanded abrogation of SRO 62 of 2001 which denies reservation to visually impaired and blind candidates in selections for the posts of teachers and other equivalent posts. He called for enactment of state Act on the analogy of Central Act pertaining to reservations for the blind candidates in all govt. jobs. He also called for due share in all jobs to such physically and visually challenged youth in consonance with the sprit of a welfare state. He called upon the govt. to fulfill all its commitments made with the visually impaired and ensure their absorption in gainful employment. Singh further called for reconstitution of Medical Board constituted for the purpose in conformity with the assurances given to association of blind youth who had alleged irregularities in the issuance of such certificates. He called for verification of certificates issued in the past in the light of demand raised by such handicapped youth. Singh further urged for increase in the intake capacity and no. of seats in Residential School for blind run by social welfare department which presently has only 25 seats. He further demanded establishment of Girls Residential School for visually impaired/blind females in view of persistent demand raised in this regard. Singh said that priority consideration should be given in view of categorical assurances being given by the government from time to time.
