| Kathua excels, take home double title in kabaddi | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, May 25: Outplaying host Jammu district in undetr-17 and visiting Poonch side in under-14 category, district Kathua made it a double title win in the divisional level Inter-District Kabaddi Tournament held under the banner of Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) at Youth Hostel Nagrota, here today.
In the under-14 final, Kathua outplayed Poonch in a hard fought match by four points with final score on board being 31-27. From Kathua, Shabir played brilliant game contributing highest 11 points, while Zakir Hussain was another good performer to add seven points. From Poonch, Muzaffar, Nazir Hussain and Jahangir fought well throughout.
Earlier, in the semifinals, Poonch drubbed Reasi by 18 points (43-25), while Kathua trounced Samba by 13 points (32-19).
Meanwhile, in the under-17 final, Kathua defeated host Jammu by seven points in a match that remained one-sided in the first half but finally ended with a close finish in favour of Kathua. Fariyad-u-Din, Bhag Hussain, Mohd Aslam and Talib Hussain played fabulous game for the winners, while Akash and Narinder played well for Jammu district.
Earlier, in the semi-finals, played today, Kathua beat Poonch by 13 points (32-19) and Jammu outclassed Samba by 14 points (29-15).
In the finals and prize distribution function, Deputy Director DYSS, S S Bali was chief guest, who gave away winners and runners up trophies as also other individual prizes.
