| Gandhian selfless service synonymous to humanism: Azad | | ‘Shun violence, resolve issues on table’ | |
Jammu, Nov 21 Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad on Monday said that Gandhianism educates and propagates mutual brotherhood, co-existence, non-violence and love, the guiding principles more relevant in present day global scenario to calm the conflicting and volatile situations. Describing Gandhian philosophy of living a disciplined, honest and simple life and extending every help to poor as synonymous to basic values of humanism, Mr. Azad asked the Gandhian workers to be true torch bearers of Gandhianism and best example of friends of people. Chief Minister was flagging-off first batch of 300 Gandhian workers from here to Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh to participate in 3-day all India Gandhian workers sammelan being held there from November 25 to 27. Over one thousand Gandhian workers from the state are taking part in the sammelan who will leave to Tirupati in four batches. UPA Chairperson Mrs. Sonia Gandhi is scheduled to inaugurate the sammelan in which over 25000 Gandhian workers from all over the country as well as from SAARC countries are participating. Mr. Azad said that India has been abode of great mahatmas, reformers, religious leaders, scholars, intellectuals and vidvans who have nurtured the mankind and shaped in best moulds embodying characteristics of secular temperament, amity, coexistence, tolerance and respect to each others faiths. He said Mahatma Gandhi was the greatest social reformer, people’s friend and apostle of peace of our times who received global acclaim and respect for his selfless service to the mankind and introduction of most effective tool of non-violence to agitate against suppression and high-handedness. He said the country obtained freedom under the banner of Gandhian philosophy of non-violence and carried forward same principles to establish a progressive society free from hatred and considerations on the grounds of creed, caste, colour and region or religion. Throwing yet another open offer to those who still have disbelief that gun can solve issues, to shun violence, come across the table and resolve issues amicably through the process of dialogue. He said, “this is the only medium to address and resolve all issues”. Aao Masayal Kaa Hal Baatcheet Say Nekalain. Bundook Na Kahbi Koi Masla Hal Kar Saka Aur Na Ab Karega, said Mr. Azad. Chief Minister said that Mahatma Gandhi was his ideal since the student life and he used to inculcate all teachings of Gandhiji in him, adding that it is for this reason he has never touched cigarette, liquor or any other such substance and developed the tendency of speaking truth and serving the people with sincerity of mind and heart. Mr. Azad said Mahatma Gandhi worked and preached for creation of a social order free from all evils and always laid stress for speaking truth and standing with truthfulness. But unfortunately falsehood and lies have become order of the day in every field of life including the political set up, he said. He said best way to pay homage to father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi is that we shed the clad of falsehood and be true friends of people and live a disciplined, honest and simple life. Chief Minister said many countries in the world have adopted Gandhian philosophy and attained new highs but his own people are not moulding themselves in real Gandhian character which symbolizes all best human values. President Akhil Bharat Rachnatmak Samaj J&K State Mr. S. P. Verma said on the occasion that the participants of the sammelan from the state will also take part in South Asian countries meet being held at Tirupati on November 26 to promote understanding, peace and harmony in the region. The important topics on which interaction will be held during the sammelan included bringing of socio-economic transformation by Gandhian means, panchayati raj, effective implementation of national rural employment guarantee scheme, promoting organic farming, khadi and village industries, empowerment of women, generating employment avenues for youth and promoting people-to-people contact in South Asian region. Mr. Azad was apprised about the activities of Akhil Bharat Rachnatmak Samaj in Jammu and Kashmir which is also contemplating to hold a shanti sammelan of Gandhian workers in Jammu with participation of people of all the regions of the state. Chairman State Social Welfare Board Mr. G. M. Saroori and Mr. Madhu Paramhans were also present on the occasion. |
