Woman among 4 killed, 4 hurt in lightning | 2 cows also perished; kullahs burnt | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, MAY 25: As thunderstorm, accompanied by rains, hit most part of the region this evening, lightning struck several places, resulting in the death of four persons, including three labourers and a woman, and burns to as many others. Lightning struck the under construction house of one Nikku at Dabuj near Ramgarh in Vijaypur, Samba, at about 5 pm when some labourers were working there. In the incident, labourers -- Geeta Kumar and Uttra Kumar of Chhatisgarh -- were killed on the spot as they sustained severe burns, police sources said. Three others survived with injuries. Two of them were identified as Jad Ram and Jagdish Raj. Feroz, also a labourer, was struck by lightning in a brick kiln at Dabuj and killed. Two cows of Mangal Singh perished after lightning struck his house in Krishna Colony at Bari Brahmana. The family members, however, survived unhurt. At Rakh Barotian near Devak nullah, Vijaypur, kullahs of Bashir Ahmad and Jumma were burnt to ashes due to lightning. Jan Begum, wife of Abdul Ghani of Koteranka, Rajouri, was also struck by lightning and killed. Anil Kumar sustained injuries in his eyes due to lightning at his residence at Chingus in Rajouri and was hospitalised. He is a student of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, Rajouri. |
