JURSEA to protest against government's failure to start CU
5/26/2011 9:43:58 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, May 26: JURSEA members have alleged that the government was delaying the appointment of the vice chancellor because of its 'discriminatory attitude towards Jammu region.'
JURSEA members regretted that out of 15 Central Universities sanctioned by Government of India, it was only the Central University of Jammu which was being deliberately ignored and its launching delayed much to the vexation and disappointment of students, educated youth and common masses with no reason being given for the extreme delay.
A press conference under Association President Rakesh Chib said the mysterious and in-ordinate delay in start of university had deprived thousands of students and scholars of the opportunity of seeking admission, pursuing other research courses and seeking employment in a premier educational institution.
He also said that any further delay in the launch of the university would result in wastage of the next academic session as well besides creating further apprehensions in the minds of general public of Jammu.
He urged upon the government not to prepare pitch for another agitation by the people of Jammu.
He informed that while Kashmir Central University was functional despite adverse security scenario with post graduate courses in ITI, MBA, and English being conducted in full swing and several other post graduate courses like integrated law courses, convergent journalism and PG in Mathematics and Economics having been processed for introduction, the fate of Jammu Central University still hanged in balance.
He said that conflicting signals were emanating from different quarters regarding the appointment of Vice-Chancellor of the said Jammu Central University giving rise to further uncertainties and misgivings among the people of Jammu.
He further stressed that the local aspirations of the public for appointment of local Vice-Chancellor needed to be honored as Jammu had several eminent scholars and educationists of repute, who had established their credentials at national and even international level.
JURSEA warned state and Central Government if the Central University is not started this academic session then JURSEA will hold protest demonstration against government.
Among those who were present in the press conference included Anupa Sharma, Vishal Pathania, Sunil Kumar, Ameena Rajput, and Rahul.
