Jammu doctor becomes first in Asia to qualify as ITO | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 26: Promising sports medicine specialist from Jammu and Kashmir, Dr Sanjogita Soodan has achieved another milestone thereby brining laurels to the state and the country by becoming first doctor from Asia to qualify as technical official. In an examination conducted by International Boxing Association (IBA) for International Technical Officials (ITOs) at Antalya in Turki, Dr Sanjogita was amongst 26 qualifiers for the prestigious job. Out of 26 qualified ITOs, only two were Indians. The other being former International Referee and Judge, Brig PK Muralidharan Raja, who officiated at Athens Olympic Games 2004. Dr Sanjogita is presently working as Assistant Surgeon Accidental Hospital, Vijaypur in district Samba.
Leaves for China
In the meantime, Dr Sanjogita Soodan has already left for China as part of the Indian women’s boxing team. She accompanies the women’s team for China Open Boxing International Tournament starting at Guiyang in China from tomorrow. Appreciation from IABF
This Jammu doctor, has earlier been appreciated by the Indian Amateur Boxing Federation (IABF). In a letter written to the Minister for Health, J&K, Sham Lal Sharma, the secretary general, Brig P K Muralidharan Raja had said, “I would like to take this opportunity of placing on record the excellent medical support and assistance provided by Dr Sanjogita Soodan to the Indian (Youth and Junior) boxing contingent which participated in the Ist AIBA World Championship held at Antalya in Turkey in first week of May.”
