SASB distances itself from controversial Agnivesh | Amarnath Yatra | | NEHA EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 26: Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) has done exceedingly well to clear its stand on what the controversial, nay pro-separatist and anti-Hindu, Swami Agnivesh said about Amarnath Yatra on May 16 in Srinagar. It’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) has said that Governor N N Vohra, who is also the chairman of the SASB, was not present in the J&K Peace Foundation-sponsored International Peace Conference when Agnivesh made provocative and anti-yatra remarks. It’s true that Governor Vohra was not present in the seminar at that time. The Governor had left the venue after the inaugural session. He had simply made the opening remarks and emphasized the need of restoring peace in the state in general and Kashmir in particular. Hence, the controversy should end with the clarification issued by the CEO as far as the Governor vis-à-vis Agnivesh are concerned. However, the CEO’s statement has created another controversy by making a vague comment in his statement. The statement has said: “The Governor was concerned about the malicious intentions with which certain elements were seeking to spread disaffection among the people.” The CEO should have named those whose intentions are “malicious.” Did he refer to Agnivesh who poured venom on India, condemned those demanding enhancement of the duration of Shri Amarnath Yatra, made common cause with Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Kashmiri separatists and communalists and dismissed the state government as New Delhi’s puppet? Or, did he refer to those in Jammu who want 2-month-long Yatra? Who he described as elements with “malicious” intentions or elements seeking to “spread disaffection among the people”? Who? His statement has left many people aghast and guessing. The people of Jammu are not spreading disaffection. Their demand that the period of Yatra be extended to 60 days could not be construed as a move aimed at spreading disaffection. One may or may not accept their demand, but the same could not be taken to mean a move aimed at disrupting peace in the state or creating schism in the society. It is the likes of Agnivesh who have been consistently spreading disaffection among the patriotic and secular people of the state by making out-and-out anti-India and pro-separatist and pro-Maoist statements. These are the people who enjoy patronage. It would not be out of place to mention here that the outcome of the peace conference was not inspiring. The likes of Agnivesh, who took part in it, only put forth suggestions which could not be appreciated by any right thinking man and well-wisher of India. Ironically, even one of the interlocutors had vitiated the atmosphere by asserting that the people’s participation in elections and Kashmir problem were two different things. These are the people who are aggravating the already rather aggravated situation in the state. These are the persons who need to be reined in. The CEO would do well to name those who are “seeking to spread disaffection among the people.” It’s imperative to set the record straight.
