HC directs NHPC to deposit money with JK govt | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, May 26 (KNS): The High Court has directed NHPC authorities to deposit money on account of usage of water for generating electricity with Jammu and Kashmir Government. After hearing the writ petition filed by the NHPC, Justice Sunil Hali of HC directed state government not to take any coercive measures against NHPC employees till next date of hearing. However, the court asked the NHPC authorities to deposit amount raised through various bills with the respondents immediately and fixed July 6 as next date of hearing of the case. The state government was ordered to maintain a separate account for the money deposited by the NHPC. NHPC earns Rs 7,140 crore a year from its J&K operations. From an identified 14,275 megawatt potential, J&K has been able to harness only 2,456 megawatts. Of this, NHPC alone is generating 1,680 megawatts through its four projects-Salal, Dul Hasti, Uri and the just commissioned Sewa-II. It is adding 320-megawatt to its installed capacity in the city within the next one year when its three projects-one in Kashmir and two in Ladakh go into generation.
