Car mishap: one body fished out from Chenab, others still missing | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 26: Of the unknown number of youth, who were Wednesday evening washed away by the strong Chenab river currents after their i-10 car had fallen into it at Seri near Ramban, the body of one was today fished out by police. The car fell into the river Wednesday at about 7.30 pm and it took police over 16 hours to locate the car in the mighty river. One body was found trapped under the car seat. It belonged to Salim, son of Wali Mohammad of Satwari. SP, Ramban, Anil Magotra said they did not know about the exact number of youth sitting in the ill-fated car (JK02AJ/3472), but identity of the two had been confirmed. The car belonged to Varun Anand of Pakki Dhakki and he was in the driving seat when the incident occured yesterday. His purse was recovered from the accident site. Varun's family members had reached Seri to search for him, the SP informed. He said the search operation was called off Wednesday at about 11.30 pm and resumed at 5 am today. The car and Salim's body were taken out from the river at about 11.30 am, he informed. Salim's body was handed over to his family members, who had reached Seri, after post-mortem at the Ramban district hospital. Magotra said though searches continued throughout the day, no other body could be found out by cops. Official sources said the car could have fallen into the river due to slippery road conditions as it was raining when the tragedy struck. Varun had his office at Shastri Nagar and he dealt in admissions in professional colleges across the country, the sources added, saying Salim was his friend.They were stated to be going to Srinagar.
