Kashmiris optimistic of a peaceful summer this year | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, May 27: With traders and other business community members outrightly opposing the bandh calls and frequent strikes in Valley, the people are optimistic that this Summer after many years will pass peacefully. The outright rejection of strike calls by the business community members is a positive sign and people are optimistic that the situation will change for a better in the trouble-torn Valley, is the general feeling among the masses in Kashmir who are fed up with 21 year long turmoil and gun culture. The common masses who are the worst sufferers of the terrorism also want that separatists should hold the parlays with Government for restoration of total peace in the trouble-torn Valley and they should not depend on neighboring Pakistan which has now been exposed before international community as the world sponsor of terrorism. Pakistan is the epicenter of terrorism and it will explode any time so separatists should learn a lesson from the last 21 years of militancy which gave them nothing except destruction. So the separatist leaders should now stop from taking dictates across the border is the general opinion of masses in Kashmir. The people are not in favour of strikes and bandhs now as enough is enough said Ghulam Hasrat a social activist from Kulgam district of South Kashmir. The people of Valley have suffered a lot during last 21 years of terrorism and they will not tolerate the dictates of separatists any more now. ``We have a unique history of hundreds years and we have a faith in the principles of secularism and pluralism but some forces inimical to the cause of people of the Valley exploited our youth to take to arms for socalled Jehad’’, he added. The people feel glad after the resumption of development works in Valley this Summer which is an indication of a good tourist season this year, said Mohammed Shaban a trade unionist. ``We hope this will be a peaceful Summer after a long gap as situation is limping back to normal by and by’’, he added. For the first time this year the construction work on various roads and lanes has been taken up in hand by the government, he said adding the work on these roads was started last year by various Government agencies and after the last years stone pelting incidents the work was abandoned by the concerned agencies. But with the construction of these roads the peoples problems will be relieved to a great extent, Mr Shaban said. ``We hope that this will be a peaceful summer as neither the common Kashmiri is with strikes and bandhs nor the trading community’’ said Ghulam Hassan Najar. They have made it clear to the separatists as well and pledged to work for the restoration of peace and prosperity of the state’’he added. The overwhelming response of the people to panchayat elections is also an indication that the people in Valley are for peace and restoration of democracy in the state, he said, adding the Government should utilize this opportunity and work for isolation of separatist forces and harborers of terrorism once for all. The terrorists on behest of Pakistan have eroded the economic base of the state and instead of death and destruction they gave nothing to the state, he said, adding for how long people will tolerate this all. They can’t misled people any more now and in case the separatists too continue to support the terrorism the people will be forced to revolt against them.
