| ‘Take strong notice of Commissioner’s role’ | | | JAMMU NOV-21 The general body of Jammu Municipal Corporation in an emergent meeting discussed the city development plan under Jawahar Lal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission here today. At the outset PDP corporator Zaffar Khan expressed his apprehensions about the manner in which the plan was prepared and presented before the house for approval and objected the inclusion of Bari Brahmana Municipality in the development plan. While raising objections to the plan, the Corporator ward NO 1 Narender Singh alleged that while formulating the plan by the JDA, the JMC has not been consulted who has been assigned the job and allotted funds for implementation of the plan. He was supported by other Corporators including Sanjay Mahey of Shiv Sena and Balwant Kumar Ballu Independent. In a signed statement Narender Singh, Zaffar Javed, Sanjey Mahey and Balwant Kumar Ballu, Corporators said that most of the Corporators questioned the manner in which the meeting was held and copies of the plan provided to a selected corporators. Infuriated over the objections raised by some of the Corporators, the Commissioner lost his temper and asked his other fellow officers of the Corporation, who were also present at the meeting, to stage a walk out, the corporators alleged. Taking strong notice of showing disrespect to the House, the Corporators maintained that the dictatorial attitude of the Commissioner would not be tolerated and urged the Chief Minister and the Housing and Urban Development Minister to ensure proper utilization of funds allocated under the Mission. However, representative of the Renewal Mission, Mathur explained the salient features of the plan and assured the members that their apprehensions and reservations would be taken into consideration and the projects concerning their wards would be incorporated in the detailed project report and works undertaken to the entire satisfaction of the respective corporators. He said Rs.3675.75 crore are being spent under the project, a brainchild of Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad.
