Ex-minister's trust alloted prime land at Gadigarh, people protest
5/28/2011 12:02:12 AM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, May 27: A massive protest was today held by people on the Miran Sahib-R S Pura road stretch at Gadigarh against the allotment of prime land to a trust owned by former health minister and
Congress leader Suman Lata Bhagat.
The angry people, who shouted slogans against revenue department, blocked the road at Gadigarh and did not allow Suman and her son Vikas to proceed to the land measuring 7.11 kanalas.
They alleged that the land had been alloted to Chhajju Ram Charitable Trust in gross violation of rules as it was actually earmarked for the construction of a college, or a hospital on it.
The protesters alleged that the allotment was the official way of grabbing the land.
Sarpanch Vijay Kumar Sharma, who led the protestors, said they were determined to continue their protest till the land allotment order was cancelled.
Sneh Lata said revenue department could not allot land to any person, or a trust as it was only the prerogative of the state cabinet. There was also a provision to put such pieces of land to open bid as it would bring more revenue to the government.
ACR Inderjeet Bhagat, who reached the spot along with police, pacified the protesters and assured them that their concern would be brought to the notice of the authorities concerned.
Following this assurance, the protesters dispersed peacefully.Prominent among those who protested included panchs -- Sunita Sharma, Santosh Sharma, Narinder Singh, Kewal Krishen, Sunita
Kumari, Sudershan Sharma and Kewal Sharma.
