| 23 year old Abhinav Theater awaits resurrection | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu,May 28 : But for Abhinav Theater, the talent of artists would have gone waste. But today when the theater desperately awaits resurrection nobody seems interested in it. According to official sources Abhinav Theater is facing hardships these days due to non performance of its air conditioning system.On record the authorities admitted the fact that the system is out of order for long time yet nothing concrete has been done to repair the plant.A senior authority of the academy of art, culture and languages when contacted said that the complete details have been forwarded to the higher authorities for the next phase of the renovation but nothing tangible has come out till date.According to sources, the air conditioning plant was installed in the auditorium in 1998 during the last phase of renovation and since then no major renovation work was carried out by the authorities who boast of looking after the interests of the artists and scholars.In absence of air conditioning system people are shying away from organizing the events in the theater. The theater is craving for help. Is anybody listening? The state of Jammu and Kashmir boasts of a rich cultural heritage and to preserve the same the political leadership of the state had long ago decided to set up an Academy of art culture and languages. The mandate which was given to the academy was brief and simple: organise cultural events, publish research material and works of difference scholars to promote the art, culture and different languages in the state. What they failed to do so was to give ‘financial autonomy’ to the academy to look after its interests and build better infrastructure.To begin with the academy of art culture and languages did the right job by consolidating its hold on the society and building a rapport among the like minded people. As word went out that the state government, happy with the performance of the senior officials of the academy has decided to enhance the annual budgetary support the second phase of expansion took place.Physical infrastructure was built by the state government to further expand the domain of the Academy of art, culture and languages.
