Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, May 28: Underlining the significance of private sector in job market, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah urged the private players in trade, commerce and industry to play their important role in Jammu and Kashmir.
“We are confronted with huge crises of unemployment and Government alone cannot absorb all jobless persons”, he said highlighting the expansion of private sector in the state.
Omar appreciated the HDFC Bank for continuing its functioning in the Valley during the period of disturbances last year.
“When so many companies shut their units during the five months unrest in the valley, you exhibited the spirit of being true friends of the people by working in challenging circumstances”, he told the HDFC staff while inaugurating 18th branch of the Bank at Behama, Ganderbal.
He said that private players in the field of Industry and Commerce have to play vital role in providing jobs to the educated youth and complimenting the State Governments efforts to address employment crises in an effective manner.
“Creation of jobs for youth is our main concern”, he said.
“We have to work in coordination to create avenues and opportunities for unemployed educated persons”, he added.
Omar Abdullah expressed the hope that HDFC Bank will extend its operational field in the State and provide best service to the people. He said that at the end of the day the number of branches existing in a particular area is not counted, but the quality of service and response to the public needs is regarded.
“You have to earn place in the hearts of the people and that is your real success”, he told the Bank authorities.
Omar Abdullah asked the Bank to be prompt on delivery of service to the people particularly on credit front. “Generally we observe that Banks concentrate on increasing the deposit accounts but are miser in advancing loans and credits to the people”, he said this trend needs to be corrected.
“Creation of Micro Small and Medium Entrepreneurship (MSME), culture requires liberal advances from the financial institutions. The bankers have to exhibit courage and commitment in this direction and rise to the occasion”, he asserted.
Welcoming the Chief Minister, the State Head of HFDC Bank, Zuber Iqbal said that HDFC Bank has opened 18th branches in the State with the employment of over 1000 persons. “All the employees of the bank are from Jammu and Kashmir”, he said adding that another 21 branches for the State are in pipeline in which another 1000 people from the State only will be employed.
