'Transfer of powers to Panchayats'; CS chairs meet

SRINAGAR, May 28: The Empowered Committee set up by the government under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary, Madhav Lal to look into the issue of empowerment of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) held its meeting.
This was the fourth meeting of the Committee in series to discuss transfer of funds, functions and functionaries to the elected three tire PRIs. The functions to be transferred to the Village Panchayats, Block Development Councils and District Planning and Development Boards in the light of the 73rd amendment were discussed in detail.
Based on the discussion with departments like health, social welfare, school education and other departments, the departments were directed to frame draft orders regarding devolution of funds and manpower to the three tier Panchayati Raj Institutions.
All the concerned line departments were directed to complete the exercise and submit to the members of the Committee at the earliest.
