Shazia retains junior girls’ title in Reasi sport climbing

JAMMU, May 28: Shazia Kousar of Mohore has retained her junior girls title in the Fourth Reasi District Sport Climbing Championship which concluded at Sprawling Buds School, Chinore, here today.
Shazia’s twin sister Sumiya Kousar bagged the second spot while Onam Kumari of Amba Kids Panthal remained third.
In the sub-junior category, there was a good competition among the eight finalists who were competing for the first time. Finally, Rahil Mir emerged victorious pushing Mohd. Muzamal and Atiq-ul-Rehman to the second and third spots respectively.
In the sub-junior girls’ category, Sonali Rajput and Nazmeen Akhtar, both in their maiden competition, gave a tough fight to their senior climber, Arti Sharma before settling for the second and third positions respectively.
Earlier, Sports Officer, State Sports Council, Rajan Sharma inaugurated the district championship. He also presented medals to the winners of the Jammu District Sport climbing competition which was held on April 25.
Speaking to the gathering, Rajan Sharma, lauded the efforts of the Mountaineering Association of J&K to conduct six district competitions at Jammu that too in the absence of adequate climbing infrastructure. He also appreciated the role of private institutions of other districts especially Reasi in cooperating with the Association for the smooth conduct and promotion of the game in J&K.
He announced that Sports Council would provide free lodging facilities at M.A.Stadium, Jammu to the participants of any coaching camp conducted by the Association in future.
It was the third district competition after Jammu and Udhampur districts which was organised by the Mountaineering Association of J&K during the current financial year. A total of 89 climbers from various institutions of Reasi district participated in the one day competition.
Shawetica Khajuria, a qualified Sport Climbing Judge, was president of Jury of the competition, while Suraj Singh, Anil Kumar and Shashi Sharma were the Route Setters cum Belayers of the competition. Sonam Sidharth was the organising secretary.
Prominent among others present were secretary, Mountaineering Association of J&K, Ram Khajuria, Rahul Sharma and Arti Sharma, both directors of Sprawling Buds School, Pooja Datta, Principal of Sprawling Buds School, Satish Bhan, Shamim and Anita Devi and Abhimanyu Sherpa, a former North Zone Champion.
