Development of slum areas Govt’s top priority: Bhalla

Jammu, May 29: Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Raman Bhalla has said that the Government was committed to develop all underdeveloped basties and slum areas by providing adequate facilities like adequate drinking water, electricity, hospitals, education, road connectivity besides better lanes and drains.
The Minister said this while interacting with the people after laying the foundation of Rs. 23 lakh development works at Ward No. 20 in Balmiki Colony, here today.
Bhalla said the welfare of weaker sections of the society is a first priority of the Government adding that various schemes have been launched to develop the underdeveloped colonies on modern lines. He asked the inhabitants to cooperate with executing agencies in completing the ongoing projects in their respective areas within prescribed time.
For improving the drinking water scenario in Trikuta Nagar Extn-1 Kho Wali Gali, Basant Vihar and Lakshmi Enclave, the Minister said that a project costing Rs 2.5 crore envisaging installation of tube well and laying of supply pipes at Basant Vihar and its adjoining areas is nearing completion.
He said the project is likely to be commissioned within 15 days. He informed that after commissioning of the tube well , the problem of the drinking water scarcity in the areas would be overcome to a large extent.
Bhalla informed that Government has submitted a proposal to central Government under ADB loan-2 for upgradation of all the receiving stations in city of temples adding that after getting approval from GOI, the power infrastructure in Jammu will be upgraded
in a big way.
Earlier, the Minister visited Nanak Nagar Sector-3 and took stock of blacktopping works of five-lanes being executed at an estimated cost\ of Rs. 15 lakh.
Responding to the locals demand, Mr. Bhalla asked the R&B department authorities to prepare the estimate for upgradation of left out lanes and drains of the Nanak Sector-3 and 5 and submit the same for funding so that the works could be started after completing the tendering formalities.
