27th ‘tree talk’ held at Shalimar Garden | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, May 29 (KNS): The 27th series of ‘tree talk’ was held atShalimar Garden here on Sunday. The day also coincides with 400th year of Mughal Emperor Jahangir’s marriage with NurJahan. While welcoming tree talk participants Syed ImtiyazZaidi Floriculture officer shared old anecdotes of Jahangir and Shahjahan period. Senior IFS officer, O P Sharma talked about Magnolias which are known for their primitive floral architecture. DrManzoor Ahmad Shah Deptt of Botany, University of Kashmir talked about its oldest Mulberry trees aged about 380 years which were planted during Jahangir’s times and are still green. Prof G ABhat Department of Environmental Sciences shed light on local names of the birds.Senior Forest officer JavedIqbalPanjoo IFS discussed the importance of forests for their ecological services and their role in mitigating extremes of climate change. He referred to the microclimate of Vicharnag and lamented that weather is changing in an erratic manner over the last few decades. Prominent participants in the ‘tree talk’ included Prof G A Bhat , DrTassaduqMueen , DrManzoor A Shah , Syed ImtiyazZaidi, JavedIqbalPanjoo, Zahoor Ahmad, Rajesh Chalotra, Haqeekat Singh , Aziz Chewan , Mohammad Hilal Mir, Nazir Ahmad Mir, Syed Azaz, MoinManzoor and 50 school children . Next ‘tree talk’ is scheduled to be held in S P College Srinagar on June 5, to mark the World Environment Day.
