NSF demands starting of CU-J academic session | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 29: National Secular Forum (NSF) today demanded that the State and Central governments should immediately start academic session in Central University of Jammu (CU-J) and sought to hold an external audit into the financial bungling in the Jammu University. Activists of National Secular Forum today held protest demonstration in the campus under the leadership state president Vikas Sharma and also burnt the effigy of Union Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal in front of the Fountain plaza of Jammu University and also to show their resentment against delay in coming up academic session in Central University of Jammu and no check accountability in functioning of Jammu University. The NSF State President Vikas Sharma said that the session of Jammu Central University is late by one year while the other central universities which were announced in the month of February 2009 have completed their one session. He further said all over the country, the Central universities have started their academic session, whereas the political issue over the Central University of Jammu was still going on. NSF leaders requested the UPA Government to appoint the VC of CU-J as early as possible because a session has already been wasted. ‘If the UPA-Government fails in appointing local VC to the Central University of Jammu, then they will once again launch a mass agitation’, he said. NSF leaders also threw light on Jammu University and said Vice Chancellor of Jammu University Varun Sahni, who is an outsider, is least bothered about the university and its working. Surjit Choudhary District Chairman NSF, criticized Prof Varun Sahni for shielding fraudulent and corrupt officials of the university. “The higher officials of the varsity are living a luxurious life by spending the funds meant for student community, while students are being deprived of basic amenities and infrastructure ….This is not to be tolerated,” he alleged. NSF appealed to the Chancellor and Pro Chancellor of the University to look into the matter and order to hold a special audit into the financial bungling taking place in the university.
