MANWAL (MAJALTA), May 29: A public meeting of Congress unit of Majalta Tehsil was organised at Manwal here today wherein a detailed developmental overview of the entire Tehsil was taken.
Senior vice-president of JKPYC R.S.Pathania while addressing hundreds of people assembled over there said that due to lesser rainfall, groundwater levels have plummeted to an all-time low and natural water sources, hand-pumps, wells and bowlis have dried up creating a worst sort of water crisis in the area.
A crisis-like situation is prevailing over and administration is sleeping like a log with no action plan or strategy to tackle the same. People have to struggle and run for kilometers and wait for hours in queues for fetching a single bucket of drinking water. Acute water-scarcity has further created preponderance of an epidemic in the area.
Youth Congress also threatened of a tehsil-wide stir in case remedial measures are not taken at the earliest. Pathania further sought special package for fast-tracking upgradation–cum-improvement of roads in Ramnagar. Om Parkash, President BCC Majalta, Kuldip Singh Sarpanch, Wkg. President and Uttam Singh, Block Kissan Cell President lashed out at local MLA for failing to come up to expectations of common people. Among others who were present on the occasion included Bodh Raj, Mohan Lal, Dewan Singh, Raghubir Singh, Om Parkash, Jagmohan, Bikram Singh, Bishan Dass, Hem Raj Gupta, Makhan Lal, Vijay Kumar, Narain Dass, Karpal Singh and others.
