D&FC organises symposium | Anti Tobacco Day | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 30: The Drugs and Food Control Organization, Jammu today organized a symposium to mark “Anti-Tobacco Day” at Jamwal Group of Education Institutions, Purkhoo camp Jammu. The event was organized under IEC activities to make the students aware about the harmful effects of smoking and use of other tobacco products (prohibition of advertisement and regulation of trade and commerce, production, supply and distribution) Act 2003. Over 300 people, including students from different colleges, teachers and eminent personalities from different sections of society like educationalists, parents, social workers, NGOs, doctors and officers of the department attended the programme. Besides debate competition, skits were also performed by the students on ill effects of tobacco and its related products and Power Point Presentations were also held to make ignorant masses aware about the legal aspects of Tobacco Control Act, 2003. Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Controller, Jammu, Lotika Khajuria emphasized strict implementation of the relevant provisions of law besides creating massive awareness among the public about the preventive aspects of this menace followed by curative efforts. She also distributed prizes among the winners of the competition.
