Weak industrial sector can't resolve unemployment in J&K | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, May 30: National Conference led Government seems to have left it to the private sector to generate jobs for the educated unemployed youth in Jammu and Kashmir. Official sources said that after the state Government found that since its resources were limited thereby leaving hardly much scope for creating new posts for the unemployed youth it has asked the industrial entrepreneurs for enhancing job avenues for the unemployed youth in the troubled state. However, leaders of industry and trade have stated that the scope for increasing job avenues in the private sector in the stat was very limited and meagre. They said that during the last more than five years not more than Rs.3000 crores had been invested in the industrial sector in Jammu and Kashmir whereas in Himachal Pradesh and Uttrakhand the private and Govrnment investment in the industrial sector has ranged between Rs.75,000 crores and Rs.80,000 crores during the last five years. They said that acute power crisis, is resulting in inordinate delays in project clearance and release of incentives and subsidies had been the main factors for tardy growth in the industrial sector. A number of educated unemployed youth, which were interviewed, said that even the Prime Minister's employment package had its drawbacks. They said that in the package emphasis had been laid on development of skills. "What skills candidates having doctorate, postgraduate and graduate degrees expect to learn ?"The unemployed youth wish to know. They said that if the state Government in general and the Chief Minister in particular want the problem of unemployment to be resolved they should encourage big industrialists for setting up big units in the state. They have cautioned the Government against discouraging industrialists who were keen to set up their units in Jammu and not in Kashmir.(KIP)
