NSF questions appointment of lecturer in Institute of Human Genetics | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, May 30: The students and scholars of Jammu University, under the banner of National Secular Forum (NSF), Gheroed the Director, Institute of Human Genetics, Prof N K Tripathi in his office. They were protesting against the illegal appointment of contractual lecturer in the Institute. The NSF activists led by state president Vikas Sharma raised slogans against the Vice Chancellor Prof Varun Sahni and Director Human Genetics Prof N K Tripathi for giving undue favour of ineligible candidates, ignoring the deserved and eligible candidates. They locked the main gate of the Human Genetics, office and kept it locked for three hours to express their resentment against the favoritism and illegal appointments. Addressing the NSF workers, Sharma said that the University invited applications from all eligible candidates for the post of contractual lecturer in the Department of Human Genetics. “It was stated that the candidates who have completed degree in Human Genetics or Zoology were eligible for the post. A total of 15 candidates, including 14 from Jammu region and one from Kashmir applied for the post but it was to utter surprise that a candidate who belonged to Kashmir region and have done M.Sc in Fisheries was appointed, in violation of the eligibility criteria,” he said. He further said the candidate, who had been given undue favour, has completed his M.SC through study centres. “His appointment was made against the violation of all norms as the Jammu University does not recognize the degrees issued by the study centres,” he said. Unfortunately, the selection committee was chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof Varun Sahni himself. Now, the Vice Chancellor must reply as to why he recommended selection of that candidate while ignoring the other candidates from Jammu. NSF has demanded from the University administration to clarify the whole case, and warned that the NSF would intensify its agitation if the illegal appointment was not cancelled.
