Special assembly, symposium on World No Tobacco Day.organised

Jammu, May 30:A special assembly followed by a symposium & poster making competition was today held by the Students of Lawrence Public School under the guidance of their teachers to mark the World No Tobacco Day.
The students spoke on the ill effects of consuming tobacco products in any form by the youngsters & the public at large. They elaborated on the consequences of chewing tobacco, smoking bidi and cigarettes & other tobacco products leading to Cancer, COPD, Chest diseases etc.
Students advised the audience to avoid being at places where someone is smoking, as passive smoking is equally harmful & should try to request the smoker not to smoke in their presence.
A few students designed beautiful posters with messages like - Secondhand Smoke Kills, Choose Life not Tobacco, Tobacco Costs More than You Think, Growing up without Tobacco.
Later the Principal of the school S. Joshi told the students that smoking in any form active or passive & use of tobacco in any form is hazardous & all of us need to be more proactive in dealing with this problem .
She further said that it is not only the duty of the Government & Non-Government organisations to spread awareness to curb this problem but it has to be a community initiative instead. Greater focus must be laid on preventive aspects of this menace followed by curative efforts.
She appreciated the students efforts & later presented certificates to the participating students in the symposium & poster making competition which included Mehak Goni, Pulak Jain, Shiv Nandan Sharma, Tanisha, Sanskriti Sharma, Omar Farooq, Rohit Rana, Shivang Dogra.
Later the students & teachers pledged that they will adopt a missionary approach in order to generate awareness among people against the adverse affects of tobacco consumption, during their forthcoming summer vacations.
It may be recalled that the efforts of the students of Lawrence Public School was greatly appreciated when they had presented a tabloid depicting the adverse affects of tobacco & drug use on Jan 26th, 2011 at M.A stadium, Jammu in collaboration with Dept. of Food & Drug control, J&K.
