Panthers to launch agitation for local VC, CU-J | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 30: Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) has decided to take the agitation in support of appointment of local Vice Chancellor (VC) for the Central University-Jammu (CU-J) to the Delhi durbar from next month. Addressing a press conference here today, leader of the Panthers Party Legislature party Harsh Dev Singh said, "We would launch an agitation from next month in New Delhi if the centre and the state government failed to operationalise Central University Jammu and announce immediate appointment of Vice Chancellor". Singh also demanded that a local should be appointed VC of the university in order to fulfil the aspirations of the people of Jammu region. He said, “If a Jammu Dogra can become an Army chief or Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India, why cannot a Jammu academician become a VC of Jammu Central University?” The state government has deliberately chosen to deprive the people of Jammu from the benefits of education, he alleged. Out of the 15 Central Universities announced in 2009, it is only the CU-J which is still on paper, while the rest will soon start their second academic session, he said. Criticising the state government, Singh said that after irrelevant objection to issuance of Dogra certificates to the people of Jammu region the order to issue such certificates was withdrawn. "This is great injustice to the people of Jammu region. JKNPP will not tolerate it," he maintained.
