Two-day "Jashan-e-Faiz" celebrations launched at JU | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, May 30 (PTI) As the nation remembers revolutionary poet Faiz Fiaz Ahmed in his centenary year, Jammu University today organised a two-day long "Jashan-e-Faiz" celebrations to commemorate the great poet. Addressing the inaugural function here, Vice Chancellor of Jammu University Prof Varun Sahni described Faiz as a multi-dimensional personality who took up several vocations through his life. "He was also a reputed journalist but despite that he continued to write poetry. Fiaz was arrested many times and put behind the bars. But he continued poetry even in jail", Prof Sahni said. He said the papers presented will be published in the research journal Tasalsul so that the new generation could know the poetry and personality of Faiz Ahmed Faiz. In his presidential address, Editor-in-Chief of Kashmir Times Group of Newspapers, Ved Bhasin said that Faiz wrote poetry in his own style, inviting the reader to think. Jashan-e-Faiz celebrations included a two-day National seminar on the life and works of Faiz Ahmed Faiz which is being organized by Fakar-ud-din Ali Ahmed Committee, Lucknow, a two-day National Book Exhibition, a Sham-e-Ghazal and an all India Urdu Mushaira. Jashan-e-Fiaz celebrations are being organised across the World, with one recently held in Vigyan Bhawan, Delhi which was inaugurated by the President of India.xxxxxxxxxxxx Low intensity quake jolts Kashmir Srinagar, May 30 : A low intensity tremor jolted the Kashmir Valley Monday although no damage to life or property was reported.
Local official Amir Ali said the earthquake, measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale, occurred in the valley at 9.15 a.m. "The epicentre was in Pakistan," he said. Moderate to low intensity earthquakes have occurred at least six times in the valley in the last one month.
