SMVDU driver sacked over bag of rice, AR above VC | | | SUMIT SHARMA JAMMU, May 30: A driver of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) has been rendered jobless by an agitated Assistant Registrar (AR) allegedly because he failed to bring Basmati rice bags. Having served the university for six long years, the poor fellow is now wailing and weeping after being thrown out of university. Aggrieved driver, for the sake of justice, has filed a case in the court against reputed university besides lodging a complaint to the Governor, who is also chancellor of SMVDU. Mohinder Kumar of RS Pura, was adjusted as driver on contract basis in the university on the recommendations of the then Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SMVDSB Dr Arun Kumar in 2005 and accordingly, a Gypsy was allotted to him and he was placed along with the then Finance Officer OP Gupta. Applicant was allegedly given assurances by Assistant Registrar of the university that he would be regularized like other drivers on the condition that bags of basmati rice be delivered him on regular basis. In his complaint submitted to Raj Bhawan, Mohinder alleged that till the time, he used to give bags of basmati rice; he continued with Registrar Veena Gupta and was later attached with Incharge Transport/Section Officer Rajesh Sharma. Mohinder alleged that when Rajesh came to know that bags of rice were being given to the Assistant Registrar, he too demanded the same with the assurance of getting him permanent. However this time Mohinder refused, but he did not know that refusal may claim his square meals because the next day Rajesh allegedly directed him to go to Nainital on a private visit of Professor R.S. Mishra. Mohinder alleged that when he refused to oblige the same because the visit was private and university did not claim if any mishap took place on way. He further alleged that on the basis of fabricated charges he was shown door of university after conducting an inquiry headed by Roop Kour, registrar. Meanwhile Assistant Registrar refuted the allegations when contacted. He said that the driver had scuffle with other drivers and the matter was reported to the VC of the university. An inquiry was ordered and on the basis of the report, tenure of Mohinder was cut short. |
