Early Times Report

JAMMU, May 30: Though BJP may justify the decision regarding the suspension of seven MLAs from the Party for public consumption but inwardly party is perturbed over the decision as some senior functionaries of the BJP candidly admit that the action against the seven MLAs was taken in a hurry.

According to sources, some senior functionaries in Delhi who have over four to five decades relations with former Union Minister, Prof chaman Lal Gupta, who has also been suspended from the Party by the high Command on the charges of cross voting in last months elections to Legislative Council are still making a last minute bid for truce in J&K unit of the party. These senior functionaries are still pursuing every one in union capital who means in BJP seeking their intervention in saving a vertical split in the state unit despite the fact that battle lines have been already drawn by both suspended MLAs and the Party for a show down against each other, sources added.

Sources said these senior functionaries while showing their displeasure against the party decision said that the action against Prof Gupta who had been an active member of the Sangh parivar since he was eleven years of age was not justified. They while recalling the services of Prof Gupta to Party and national cause said the person who served as an RSS pracharak in different parts of the country can’t indulge in cross voting at this stage.

``it is not convincing that a person who linked to a particular ideology will say good bye to that ideology and revolt against the Party to which he served for over 60 years of his life with dedication’’, these functionaries have told the BJP president, Nitin Gadkari and asked him to review the decision, sources said.

Sources however said Mr Gadkari who is influenced by a coterie which is totally against the existence of Prof Gupta in BJP are hell bent to show him a door by showing a scant respect for his seniority and loyalty to the Party. This coterie which wants to promote a less known group of Partymen in Jammu are advising Mr Gadkari against taking any lenient view against the seven MLAs including Prof Gupta.

Sources said that these leaders also failed in their bid to placate Prof Garu Ram one of the seven members of the suspended group by promising him heaven if he disassociates from Prof Gupta and turning down of offer by the MLA added to the desperation of these leaders who otherwise had planned to fight the group to finish it politically.

However the refusal by Prof Garu Ram who did not accept to toe their line has dashed their hopes in ground and they have started other tactics to outwit them, sources said, adding that still there is a strong feeling among some senior functionaries at New Delhi for Prof Gupta and they believe that he was made a scapegoat by the Part just to please his opponents in J&K as well as at national level.
