| Muslims stood to give befitting reply to LeT threat call | | Say Islam do not forbade to take part in elections | |

Although Divisional Commander of Lashkar-i-Toiba claiming himself as Abu Sohail has pasted posters in Salva area of Mendhar threatening voters to remain away from voting, Muslims of the area have retaliated saying that they will go ahead and participate in the polls and gave befitting reply to the militants.
Early Times has get the copy of the poster of LeT written in Urdu language duly stamped as Mujahideen Lashkar-i-Toiba, Jammu and Kashmir and signed by Abu Sohail claiming Divisional Commander has threatened the people to kill them if they cast their votes in Panchayat polls. The poster read “If you are Muslims, you must not participate in the elections and those who will participate will be laid to permanent rest”.
The LeT has also threatened the Panches and Sarpanches and suggested them to remain away from elections. It added “We will not let anybody who participates in Panch and Sarpanch election and we will definitely kill him”.
Although Senior Superintendent of Police, Poonch Ashkoor Wani when contacted has said that the poster might be fake and it may be handiwork of some miscreants but he said that they have launched an investigation into it. “We are examining the poster minutely”, he added.
Meanwhile Muslims of the area have said that they will go ahead and participate in the elections. They said that they have decided to cast their vote at any cost in the area. On the condition on anonymity a Muslim leader of the area said that when militant loose public support they have turned frustrated in the area but people will not come under pressure this time and they are well aware that militants always use pressure tactics to harass people.
A Social worker Moulvi Fareed Ahmed has said that he is Muslim and he has never listened about any restrictions in Islam to participate in elections. “We will not tolerate misinterpretation of Islam by the militants”, he said adding that “These militants have always mis –interpreted Islam and such people become the reason by which Muslims are being looked at suspicion”. Moulvi added that he has already appealed people of Mendhar to come out from their houses on June 2 and participate in Panchayat polls in Mendhar. He said that no body will harm them if they remain united. “We should not succumb to the pressure of militants because these militants are hurdle in our developments. “We must give befitting reply to the LeT by participating in the elections’, he added. |
