Internal party bickering plague congress in Jammu | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, May 31: Senior congress leaders, belonging to the camp of loyalists, have conveyed to the party high command that this was the opportune time for containing the activities of dissidents so that the Congress could gain political advantage from the "tottering" BJP unit in the state. Party sources said that after the appointment of Mohan Prakash, AICC General Secretary, as incharge of the Congress affairs in Jammu and Kashmir, role of dissidents was being marginalized. They said that the recent message conveyed by Mohan Prakash to the dissidents had started showing results. A senior party leader, belonging to the camp of loyalists, said that soon after the recent Legislative council election, state unit of BJP was tottering and some of the workers had begun joining one party or the other, including the PDP. He said this was the time for congress to make inroads in the BJP but the BJP supporters are not willing to join the congress because of the problem having been created by the activities of the dissidents. Another leader said that during 2001-2008, Congress had not been plagued by groupism and that was the reason that it bagged sufficient number of Assembly seats facilitating it to share power first with the PDP and now with the National Conference. He said that under the leadership of Saif-ud-Din Soz, Congress had regained its ground that it had lost in the Kashmir valley but unfortunately whatever gains the party had achieved were being frittered away by the dissidents. Loyalists said that this was the time the Congress needed to strengthen its position and consolidate its bases in the state and that was possible if the dissidents were told to stop indulging in anti-party activities.
