SRINAGAR, May 31: Special Judge Anti-Corruption, Kashmir, Mr Rashid Ali Dar today declared a retired Executive Engineer of Power Development Department guilty of creating assets hugely disproportionate to his bona fide sources of income and pronounced two years of rigorous imprisonment for the convict.

Ghulam Ali Dar S/o Ghulam Nabi Dar R/o Housing Colony Rawalpora, then Executive Engineer Transmission Division, Bemina, Srinagar was accused of misusing his official position, indulging in large scale corruption and thus raising fortunes disproportionate to his known and genuine sources of income in 1997. Vigilance Organisation Kashmir established the charges against him during a preliminary inquiry and subsequently filed against the accused case FIR No: 101/97 P/S VOK for commission of offences punishable under sections 5(1) (e) read with 5(2) Prevention of Corruption Act and section 14 of Public Men and Public Servants Declaration of Assets and other Provisions Act-1983 r/w section 5(2) PC Act.

After years of trial, the judge found the accused guilty of the charges against him and ordered in the court today that the convict be held in two years of rigorous imprisonment. He further awarded fine of Rs 6 Lakh. In default of payment of fine, he shall undergo further imprisonment of one year.

The Court also ordered confiscation of the assets seized from the convict during the course of investigation and prosecution. These include the retired Executive Engineer’s residential house in posh area of Rawalpora, in Srinagar outskirts, alongwith land beneath and appurtenant to measuring 7200 square foot, cash worth Rs. 6,92,700/- seized from his Rawalpora house and a Maruti car bearing registration No:4033/JK01-C.

The convict was taken into custody and sent to Central Jail, Srinagar for undergoing the sentence of imprisonment.
